I prefer to use the socks5 in my torrent client even when I'm connected to the VPN as a failsafe. The thing is even when I used the p2p servers, it also came with that notice to switch to the p2p servers, so I dono. If I thought about it I would switch when torrenting or the client would sometimes notify me to switch servers and I did. I currently use PIA which doesn't have dedicated p2p servers, but when I was testing NordVPN I most of the times connected to the normal servers. If you connect it to another server than your VPN, it will only reach max speeds when you're not connected to the VPN. Tl dr Connect your torrent client using socks5 to the SAME server as your VPN connection to use max speeds over UDP and use the VPN for other browsing.

I hope this helped anyone who has the same problem as me. You only sometimes have to pause and restart the torrent, but it works great.

So if you use a dynamic DNS (like no-ip) you can use that as the socks5 address.Д¬onveniently qBittorrent has a build in dynamic DNS-updater when you enable the WebUI for it, so each time you start the program it will update itself with which server you're connected to. The server you connect to is the same as the IP you get from it. This is a bit of a hassle to manually edit it each time in your torrent client each time you connect, but I found an easy way when you use NordVPN (it might work with other VPN's as well, but I cant test that). It has to be the same server as your VPN is connected to or it will not work. It's not ideal, but at least it works and lets me use the VPN AND my reach max torrent speeds.Д¬onnect over normal UDP protocol to the VPN, but then connect to the SAME server with socks5 in your torrent client.

So when support started off with the usual problem solving after giving my full story, they actually came with a solution. pretty much as a last resort as usually you get the standard answers and replies and turns out I know more about the whole system than they do.

I was about to give up as my trial was about to end. I tested this with different VPN's and various servers and all did the same. And since NordVPN doesn't allow you to decide which program uses which connection, that wouldn't be great. The problem is that socks5 isn't encrypted and as soon as I enabled the VPN, socks5 was used over my VPN connection and it caused the same problem of only reaching 50% over TCP or 1-2 Mb/s over UDP. But TCP is much slower then my max speed, but I reached about 7-8 Mb/s (50% of my max) with it and no weird drops.ДЄfter that I went to test socks5 over my normal connection and it worked great. Then I found out changing the VPN to use TCP instead of UDP kinda fixed the problem. If I used a torrent with less that 10 connections setup, it was fine and I could download the torrent on max speed. The speed dropped like crazy to 1-2 Mb/s (normal is 15-20 Mb/s).Д«ut not only the torrent was slow, everything became slow, like the connection was throttled. the problem comes when I start a torrent.ДЄs soon as the torrent creates too many connections, for me it was when it was more than 10, my connection stalled. When I connected to the VPN (which is by default UDP), my download speeds are fine, my browsing is perfect. After a long search and trying all kind of things I kinda gave up and tried the NordVPN support.ДЄ little back story about what I found out. REMEBER THE REAL SOLUTION IS IN THE TOP, BELOW IS A WORKAROUND AND MY PROGRESS TO GETTNG TO IT, IGNORE IT AS PART OF THE SOLUTION Disable it (in qBitTorrent there is a dropdown menu that lets you enable TCP only) and the speeds go up, at least for me. The actual cause of the slowdown is the ВµTP protocol.
